During West’s state title run, especially in boys and girls basketball, athletes and even some students went to social media sites to show their support and then ultimately revel in victory.

Dondre Alexander and Jeremy Morgan — the dynamic duo of the boys’ hoops squad — were perhaps the most proactive out of any players. They both took to Twitter to share their excitement and behind-the-scenes commentary during that memorable run.

Some of the girls team did as well, including senior Mackenzie Piper.

Using Storify, here is a link to some of the Tweets that were published before, during, and after the state tournament stretches.

The Iowa City West boys basketball team is fresh off a state championship.

They have a coach who’s been in his position for two-plus decades. They have two Division-I recruits that heading into their senior seasons.

Really, nearly every key player from the state title winning team is returning for the 2012-13 season. So the Trojans will likely have high hopes going into their defense of the state championship, but they’ll have plenty of experience.

Jake Gylten is the only senior in this past seasons’s starting lineup, meaning four starters will be back.

Those players include Dondre Alexander and Jeremy Morgan, both of whom will be sought after beginning this summer for both collegiate football and basketball. Alexander has been the go-to player for the last two years, but Morgan is right there with his teammate.

Morgan, the son of former Iowa Hawkeye Michael Morgan, might have the highest ceiling out of any prep player in the area. The 6-6 prospect can also play multiple positions.

Rounding out the all-star trio is Wyatt Lohaus, who will be a junior. Lohaus is the son of former Hawkeye Brad Lohaus and has a bright future. Lohaus average 12 points this past seasons as a sophomore and will likely have an increased role next season for West.
