The Iowa City West boys basketball team squares off against Linn-Mar today at 3:15 p.m. in the Class 4A state semifinal.

West is 24-0 while Linn-Mar is 20-4.

The Trojans defeated Waukee 74-52 on Wednesday to advance to today’s action.

Head coach Steve Bergman’s had already accumulated one of the best seasons in school history and in area history. West got bounced in last season’s tournament by the Lions, so a bit of revenge is on the line this afternoon.

Juniors Dondre Alexander and Jeremy Morgan continue to be forces to be reckoned with in postseason play for West. The duo is perhaps the best in the entire state, and their play on Wednesday against Waukee was nearly flawless.

Well actually for Alexander, it was arguably. Alexander tallied 13 points — two of them by way of a thunderous dunk — on 6-of-6 shooting. Morgan added 15.

Linn-Mar features the best player in the state at point guard in Marcus Paige. The North Carolina recruit scored an unfathomable 49 points in a sub-state game last week and is averaging 28.4 points per game.

Either Alexander or Morgan will likely defend Paige, which is a tough task for any prep player. The Lions have centered there offense on Paige for the last two seasons, and for good reason, so that will be a matchup to keep an eye on.

The game can be seen on KCRG-TV 9.2 and heard on KXIC 800-AM.
